New Release 'Tina's Trumpet' Follows a Lonely Girl and the Stray Dog Who Changes Everything

That's the heart of Tina's Trumpet, the new children's picture book from author Mr. Kind, available now from Youthwide, LLC.

Tina is the smallest child in her family, and she never catches up to the others. She's raised by her grandparents while her mother works far away and her father isn't around. She spends school recess on her own while the other kids play. Money is tight and home is a hard place to grow up. Then a little white dog with a shaggy coat turns up across the street, and a single word from Tina keeps him safe long enough to reach her.

Mr. Kind wrote Tina's Trumpet for his wife, in memory of the real dog who saw her through her hardest years. The book is dedicated to that dog, Terry (2011 to 2026), and its final pages hold real family photos of the pup himself, along with Mr. Kind's own family.

When asked what he hopes readers carry away from the story, Mr. Kind ties it back to why he wrote it at all. "I wrote Tina's Trumpet for my wife in memory of her dog who was with her for about fifteen years before passing less than a year ago. She asked me to write a story about him so that he would always be remembered," he says. "Remember, no matter where you are, no matter what your situation is, if you love and you hope and you dream and you have faith, you will make it through."
