SPiER and BestNotes Partner to Strengthen Electronic Health Record Support for Suicide-Safer Care

The collaboration focuses on practical tools and support for behavioral health and addiction treatment organizations.

NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, October 19, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The SPiER Project and BestNotes have partnered to help behavioral health and addiction treatment organizations carry out suicide-safer care in the electronic health record. The collaboration brings SPiER’s expertise in suicide-safer care and implementation to BestNotes’ ongoing product development.

The work will focus on how staff use screening results, find and update safety plans, respond to alerts, and track follow-up. Together, SPiER and BestNotes will review existing tools and identify where changes could make information easier to find and next steps clearer.

“When someone is at risk for suicide, the people supporting them need tools they can find, information they can use, and clear next steps,” said Virna Little, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of SPiER. “This partnership is about understanding what gets in the way and working together to make the electronic health record more useful in everyday care.”

SPiER will also provide training and practical guidance to help organizations put these tools to use. That support will address how teams review results, decide who needs to respond, and document that the next step was completed.

“At BestNotes, helping the helper has always meant giving providers not just better software, but better support in every dimension of their work. SPiER embodies that same spirit—meeting providers where they are, with the education, awareness, and tools they need to save lives. We are proud to stand alongside them in this work.”

By working directly with BestNotes on its product, SPiER aims to make improvements available to many organizations using the same electronic health record, reducing the need for each organization to solve the same problems on its own.
